Day One Hundred and Twenty One
by Andrei on Feb.14, 2010, under project 365
This needs no introduction. I have made some other photographs that show the actual location better and to the disappointment of many, a big fence is surrounding the cauldron. People can only take pictures through the holes of the fence or by climbing on objects to get a shot above the tall fence.
Note: if your RSS reader did not grab the image please go to the site and see it. It is probably because I embedded it differently this time. Here goes day 121 – the 2010 Winter Olympic Cauldron.
Day Eighty Seven

Today we went and visited some great friends where we had dinner. Jacob makes an amazing Caesar Salad and while he was preparing it, I was playing with the candles that Claudia arranged on the table and was working on getting today’s shot. When he was done, I put the salad on the table instead, bounced a flash on the ceiling and had this shot by the fourth frame. The “original” shot is somewhere else. It’s interesting how I like the non setup stuff better. I like the mix of colours here – candle light with bounced flash. I’ll talk about color temperature some other time. Suffice it to say that the candle light appears very very warm, while the flash, which is supposed to imitate daylight appears much cooler when combined with candle light in the same frame.
Here goes Caesar Salad à la Jacob. Day 87.

Day Ten

This thing’s been sitting around the house for a few good days and with as much rain as we had, it began to rot. It lost it’s beautiful smile of Thanksgiving and now it just grins with fear of the fate it awaits. Sticking that candle inside it and popping a few flashes at it tonight and was probably the most fun this thing has had since we carved out it’s brain.
