Day 346

Here’s some more reading time. You have probably figured out that we are quite a bit into reading. Not so much as you may think from my blog posts, but definitely more than into computer games or psp or other things like TV. Or at least we try to be… The “Five Little Monkeys” series is really nice.
Shot at an outrageously high ISO. Not even worth measuring. The image turned out fine, though. I increased the exposure and reduced the saturation in Lr. As my friend Ugur would say it: I “un-RGB’d” the image, where RGBing an image means tweaking with the saturation of individual primary colors, red, green, blue.

Can Man Live Without God is the title of the book by Ravi Zacharias. I have met Dr. Zacharias and have heard him speak many times. What an amazing story his life is and what an amazing mind he has. If you are not acquainted with his work and his ministry, it will be an eye opener. Wether a believer in God, or a non believer, agnostic or atheist, he will challenge your thinking, your questions and your motives and ideas. I have found him fascinating both as a human being, as an apologist, as a philosopher and as a Christian. You can find more details about his ministry at www.rzim.org and find his podcast right here.
Image lit by the obvious in the frame candles and one 580 EX CR with a coroplast snoot and a 1.5 CTO gel zoomed to 105 and set at 1/128th power, as the setup in this image shows. The reason for the 1.5 CTO gel is to bring the naturally white light of the flash to a warmer color temperature, closer to the one of the candles. This way, the image does not give away that there was an extra item lighting the subject and the viewer does not tend to question where the light comes from since there are two candles already in the frame.
Day 254

Here we had discussions about opera, history and the influence Richard Wagner had on German culture, on opera, the innovations he brought to the genre, leitmotiv, extensive polyphony, psychoanalysis in music and we briefly talked about Richard Strauss as president of the Reichsmusikkammer during the National Socialistic regime under Hitler. Here are a very good friend with my daughter, reading Wagner’s letters in German. I believe the translation had something to do with cookies and other down to earth things.
